The Youth Leadership Team is a group of high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to have fun and grow in their faith! They help lead our High School Youth Group and Junior High Youth Group. The members of the YLT are trained to plan high school and junior high meetings, retreats, summer trips, and special events. These teen leaders are taught to be good faith witnesses to their peers, and we educate them in public speaking, logistics, and apologetics.
St. Aloysius' Youth Leadership Team is unique in the way that these teen leaders are intimately involved in leading their peers. These teens do not merely serve as an advisory board; they take responsibility for building, planning, and executing events. They enjoy a direct relationship with the Adult Core Team and the Youth Minister. Through the team they are able to give back to their peers and fellow parishioners.
Robin Beard first instituted a teen leadership team in 2000, and since then our youth group has grown by leaps and bounds thanks in large part to the enthusiasm and creative planning of the leadership team. Furthermore, it offers these teen leaders a unique opportunity to grow in their faith and in leadership skills.
Each spring we accept applications from current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to join the leadership team. We ask each applicant to take part in an informal, ten-minute interview with several adult leaders in order that we can start to build a personal relationship with the teen and give them a forum to express their ideas. After all the interviews have been concluded the Adult Core Team aids the Youth Minister in assembling the team.
